"By the rude bridge that arched the flood," (Emerson)

The bridge across the Watonwan River in Garden City
Certainly Sir Henry Welcome once stood here -- the founder of one of the world's largest pharmaceutical empires, one of The Remarkable Men from Garden City. (Win Grundmeier) This is also the spot where a beer truck once rolled over, providing free beer and conversation for an entire community.

The quiet waters of the Watonwan River reflect the white towers
supporting the Hwy. 20 bridge by our county park and canoe landing
a few miles south of Lake Crystal. Hidden also are the pilings for
the old grist mill a few yards downstream at the town of Watonwan,
a busy little village, now faded into the history of our beautiful
county.
