Chad Berger
Usually it's veteran turkey hunters who choose to pursue wild turkeys with a bow and arrow, but 10-year-old Colton Berger of Mankato decided to do it the hard way right out of the gate. The youngster took up archery a year ago after his father, Chad Berger, purchased a bow and arrows for him. He had grown proficient enough and strong
enough to handle a bow with the required poundage for turkey hunting so his father purchased a Minnesota spring wild turkey license for the first season which began April 14. While accompanied by his dad and uncle, Scott Tapper of St. Clair, Colton made a seven-yard shot to bag his first turkey ever, a 25-pound tom that sported a 1-inch beard and 1 3/16-inch spurs.
